HEYWOOD BLUES

MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON
SATURDAY 2ND AUGUST, 2014

AT THE HEYWOOD PUB, TOWER STREET, HEYWOOD

Officials present: Chairman/Treasurer: Mark Hutchinson, Secretary/Memberships: Michael Johnson,
Neil Hutchinson and Barbara Whitehead
Number of members present: Approx 23

Meeting Opened: 2.10pm

CHAIRMAN’S OPENING REMARKS

Mark thanked members for attending and said that City had a very good season on the pitch.
He said that last year’s AGM didn’t happen as it should have done due to doing the memberships
first. Memberships will be done after today’s meeting.
He also said that we should remember Alan Dawson who passed away during the season before last.

TREASURER’S REPORT – read by Mark

Mark said our branch had a bad season as far as the balance sheet was concerned. We lost over
£1,000 and this can’t continue otherwise the club would fold. The loss is down to 24 home games
losing over £2,400. We will need to alter the pricing structure for next season. Mark went through
the balance sheet and the cost of coach travel to the games. He said that we can’t carry on as we are.
The last price increase was in 2008, probably the first increase in 20 years. There then followed a
debate as to how to get more people going.  The average loss per game after the raffle money was
deducted was £45. To run the double-decker cost £330 needing 55 adults at £6. The single-decker
cost £260 needing 44 adults at £6. Mark had discussed prices with Rothwell’s and these shouldn’t
increase. It was suggested that members get priority on the coach with non-members paying extra.
We have had this debate before and deemed it not practical. A suggestion made to try to raise funds
was that we could have the Championship and League Cup trophies down. This will be investigated.
Mark said it was obvious that we should increase coach prices with a £2 increase for everyone suggested.
The proposal was made by Chris Jacques and seconded by Dennis Booth. The proposal was carried by a
show of hands making the costs £8 for adults and £5 for concessions. A crude calculation suggested a
40% increase that would cover the loss if the same number of people travelled. A further attempt to
reduce costs mentioned by Mark was to downsize coaches for the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions
League. People would need to book on with Mark. This will be decided on a match-to-match basis.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT – read by Mark

Membership for last season was 100 – 74 adults, 9 juniors and 17 seniors. This was in contrast to 185
in season 2011-2012. We pay the main club £5 per adult, £1 for seniors and nothing for juniors.
To generate more money it was suggested adult memberships be increased to £7 leaving juniors and
seniors at £3 as they have paid a bigger increase for the coach. This was proposed by Neil Hutchinson
and seconded by Tom Rigby, carried by a show of hands.

SOCIAL REPORT – read by Mark

The supporters’ club room at the stadium is again at Mary D’s pub. The cost is £3 per person, a photo
is required for the card.
The Haydock Park race trip for 2013 attracted 40 people and made a £100 profit.
We again sponsored a Heywood Cricket Club match to the tune of £200. Some people suggested this
should cease but the members get a free day out. This will have to be looked at.
The supporters’ club annual dinner was cancelled due to there being no suitable date.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Mark mentioned the itinerary for the Community Shield game on Sunday the 10th August. The Heywood
opens at 5am, coach leaves at 6am direct to the Torch pub at Wembley. Return 7pm. Costs – adults £35,
concessions £25.
A suggestion was made to arrange a social night with Alex Williams and the trophies and Tommy Booth.
This will be looked into.
Mark finally thanked Justin and Sharon at The Heywood for allowing the club to function from there,
Barbara for her efforts in selling raffle tickets and Mick for his excellent secretarial work.

There being no other business, the meeting was closed at 3.30pm.
