Annual General Meeting 2014 - Saturday 2nd August, 2014
Sorry it's a bit late but as they say, better late than never.
TREASURER’S REPORT – read by Mark
Mark said our branch had a bad season as far as the
balance sheet was concerned. We lost over
HEYWOOD BLUES
MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL
MEETING HELD ON
SATURDAY 2ND AUGUST, 2014
SATURDAY 2ND AUGUST, 2014
AT THE HEYWOOD PUB, TOWER STREET,
HEYWOOD
Officials present: Chairman/Treasurer: Mark Hutchinson, Secretary/Memberships:
Michael Johnson,
Neil Hutchinson and Barbara Whitehead
Number of members present: Approx 23
Meeting Opened: 2.10pm
CHAIRMAN’S OPENING REMARKS
Mark thanked members for attending and said that City had
a very good season on the pitch.
He said that last year’s AGM didn’t happen as it should
have done due to doing the memberships
first. Memberships will be done after today’s meeting.
He also said that we should remember Alan Dawson who
passed away during the season before last.
£1,000 and this can’t continue otherwise the club would
fold. The loss is down to 24 home games
losing over £2,400. We will need to alter the pricing
structure for next season. Mark went through
the balance sheet and the cost of coach travel to the
games. He said that we can’t carry on as we are.
The last price increase was in 2008, probably the first
increase in 20 years. There then followed a
debate as to how to get more people going. The average loss per game after the raffle
money was
deducted was £45. To run the double-decker cost £330 needing
55 adults at £6. The single-decker
cost £260 needing 44 adults at £6. Mark had discussed
prices with Rothwell’s and these shouldn’t
increase. It was suggested that members get priority on
the coach with non-members paying extra.
We have had this debate before and deemed it not
practical. A suggestion made to try to raise funds
was that we could have the Championship and League Cup
trophies down. This will be investigated.
Mark said it was obvious that we should increase coach
prices with a £2 increase for everyone suggested.
The proposal was made by Chris Jacques and seconded by
Dennis Booth. The proposal was carried by a
show of hands making the costs £8 for adults and £5 for
concessions. A crude calculation suggested a
40% increase that would cover the loss if the same number
of people travelled. A further attempt to
reduce costs mentioned by Mark was to downsize coaches for
the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions
League. People would need to book on with Mark. This will
be decided on a match-to-match basis.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT – read by Mark
Membership for last season was 100 – 74 adults, 9 juniors
and 17 seniors. This was in contrast to 185
in season 2011-2012. We pay the main club £5 per adult, £1
for seniors and nothing for juniors.
To generate more money it was suggested adult memberships
be increased to £7 leaving juniors and
seniors at £3 as they have paid a bigger increase for the
coach. This was proposed by Neil Hutchinson
and seconded by Tom Rigby, carried by a show of hands.
SOCIAL REPORT – read by Mark
The supporters’ club room at the stadium is again at Mary
D’s pub. The cost is £3 per person, a photo
is required for the card.
The Haydock
Park race trip for 2013
attracted 40 people and made a £100 profit.
We again sponsored a Heywood Cricket Club match to the
tune of £200. Some people suggested this
should cease but the members get a free day out. This will
have to be looked at.
The supporters’ club annual dinner was cancelled due to
there being no suitable date.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mark mentioned the itinerary for the Community Shield game
on Sunday the 10th August. The Heywood
opens at 5am, coach leaves at 6am direct to the Torch pub
at Wembley. Return 7pm. Costs – adults £35,
concessions £25.
A suggestion was made to arrange a social night with Alex
Williams and the trophies and Tommy Booth.
This will be looked into.
Mark finally thanked Justin and Sharon at The Heywood for
allowing the club to function from there,
Barbara for her efforts in selling raffle tickets and Mick
for his excellent secretarial work.
There being no other business, the meeting was closed at
3.30pm.

Meeting opened: 2.15pm
Chairman’s Opening Remarks.
The Chairman opened the meeting and welcomed members for attending.
Apologies received.
Gordon Kay, John Armstead.
Approval of the 2009 AGM Minutes.
Mark requested if anyone had any queries from last year’s AGM. There were none so the minutes were taken as being accurate.
Moved: Neil Hutchinson, Seconded: Mick Grogan
Treasurer’s Report.
Mark went through the accounts and said we had a good season making an overall transport loss of £48 on the previous season, which was better than the £60 last season. The redeeming factor once again was the raffle, which gained £1,096 which was well up on last season. Thanks were given to Barbara for the efficient running of the raffle yet again. The overall profit was £170.50 although Mark mentioned the loss on tickets and the 60th anniversary dinner. He said he would mention these later.
Moved: Neil Hutchinson, Seconded – Paul Needham
Membership report and PRO.
Mick did the membership report. He said numbers were up on last season, having 126 as opposed to 103 which was very good. Membership fees for this season are as last year; i.e. £5 adults and £2.50 juniors/OAPs. See Mick for your new cards if you haven’t yet got yours. He said that due to the merger of the Official Supporters’ Club and the Centenary Supporters’ Association, there is now only one supporters’ club recognised by the Club. They have set up a new website which is at http://www.mcfcsc.com/ and our page from the previous website has been moved there. We also have our own website at http://heywoodblues.blogspot.com/. Mick asked for any contributions to our website. If anyone has anything please see him after the meeting.
Moved: Neil Hutchinson, Seconded: Derek Eccles
Social report
We had a successful trip to Haydock Park races when 29 members went. Mark thanked Justin and Sharon for the breakfast before and the food upon our return. This is now an annual event. Also, we have sponsored Heywood Cricket Club to the tune of £500. We are again sponsoring the first team home match which this year is v. Walsden on the Saturday 31st July. It is around £18 per head. Mark mentioned the 60th Anniversary Dinner which was a great success except the loss on tickets. We ordered 2 tables of 9 but only 11 people went and subsequently, we didn’t get our celebrity who was to have been David White. The loss was £280.
Moved: Neil Hutchinson, Seconded: Phil Weatherilt
Transport.
Mark had not yet got the prices from Rothwells but expected them to be similar to last year hopefully. Mark mentioned that as we are in Europe again, is it feasible to run a big coach to the home games bearing in mind we lost £660 in the last European campaign. It was agreed that this will be looked at after the first home game. Mention was made about the time the coach leaves which has been 1½ hours before the game for a long time. With there being more traffic, should we go earlier or go a different route. Phil Wev changed the route for the last few games to go down Lightbowne Road which was a quicker way than going down Queens Road. We can’t really leave earlier for night games but it was suggested on weekend games, we might go earlier. This will be looked at after the first weekend game. Mention was made about what benefit members have if non-members get on the coach. It was pointed out that members always have priority and non-members would have to get off if there was no room. A flyer will be given out at the first game stating this.
Moved: Michael Johnson, Seconded: Neil Thorp
Ticket Allocations.
Mark spoke at length regarding the number of tickets ordered for away games but not paid for by people who cried off. We lost at least £584 as noted in the statement of accounts and he has a pile of unused tickets at home including seven for the last game at West Ham. He pointed out that none of the people who owed money were at the meeting. The system last year didn’t really work and so a proposal was made that a £50 bond be paid before the start of the season i.e. 14th August, refundable at the end of the season if all tickets for tickets ordered through the club had
been paid for. If a person did not go to a match, the bond would be used for that ticket. People could still go on the coach if they got their own tickets. Also, if anyone ordered a ticket and couldn’t go, the ticket can only be passed to another member of the club or, if not a member, that person has to join.
Moved: Neil Hutchinson, Seconded – Michael Johnson
Re-election of officers:
This was forgotten.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS:
Bob O’Keefe thanked the committee for their sterling efforts over the last 12 months.
Mark mentioned that the supporters’ club is supporting an appeal in Sierra Leone, the world’s second poorest country, to provide a minibus and football kit to a football team set up. Any donations should be through the club. Further details are on the supporters’ club website.
There being no other business Mark closed the meeting at 3.10pm.
Number of members present: approx 35.
